Following the Six Day War, a Nahal group settled in Kfar Darom, aiming to revive the Jewish settlement in the area.
In the seventies, the community received formal recognition and served as a transit base for Gush Katif settlers.
In 1989, during Sukkot, the “Tsofiah” permanent group founded a religious community in Kfar Darom.
The Institute for Torah and the Land of Israel operated there, researching and applying the “mitzvoth hateluyot ba’aretz” (land-related commandments) both halachically and scientifically, and educating and informing the public about these topics.
