Uri was raised in the Moshav of Shalva near Kiriat Gat.

On Monday, the 8th of March 1993, the second day of Purim, Uri drove to work in his Gan-Or hothouses. When he reached the hothouses, two of his Arab workers attacked him, stabbed him to death and fled. Other workers alerted Gan-Or residents who discovered his body.
Uri was 39 when he was killed. He left behind a wife and 4 children. He was buried in the Kiriat Gat cemetery. His brother said at his funeral: “you gave the Arabs what to eat, and they butchered you.”
